Child Speak

As a child I loved old photographs and the family albums that housed many of them. These pictures transported me to another world, a world that felt as “real” as any other I’d encountered. I was also drawn to the one-of-a-kind processes used in creating these images.

With an abiding interest in people, and children especially, it’s no surprise I’ve always photographed them. I began combining my images of young children with digital software to give them an historic look and feel. I then added additional layers to enhance the viewer experience of being transported to another place.

I liked what was happening with these composites, and have kept at it since 2017. These are quiet images, but they still have plenty to say; thus the name Child Speak for this collection.
